Sustainability Assessment in the Planning Process – a Local Perspective

This paper provides a snapshot of how a group of local councils in Victoria is working towards improving the sustainability of the built environment. While many of them are working on improving the sustainability of their own capital works projects in an effort to provide leadership, this paper focuses on their mechanisms to encourage the design and development industry to adopt sustainable design strategies.
