This note addresses accessibility and transport issues associated with urban development. There are clear sustainability challenges associated with urban development and an important role for the design professional.
Accessibility and transport policy in Australian cities is moving from a legacy of providing for growing traffic and growing dispersal of the city, towards a new vision that seeks to integrate land use, user demand, transport infrastructure and the achievement of social and environmental outcomes. This note outlines the importance of these new approaches in the quest for a more sustainable urban future.
